The successor to the HiFi 262 speaker! Very high quality and rugged speaker for demanding use. TAPE TREBLE! The sound of the speaker is unstressed and very balanced. The sound has dynamics as well as good resolution. The treble area has a pleasant and clean sound.
HM-262 Redesigned top speaker
The HM-262 is a tripod speaker that replaces the Hifi 262 speaker. The starting point for the case design is to use the same case as the Hifi 262 model. The speaker elements, on the other hand, have been redesigned. In choosing the bass element, designer Pekka Tuomela emphasized that the element can be used up to a crossover frequency of about three kilohertz, without the response having bad resonances in the operating range, but also not above it. After technical research and comparisons, the designer ended up with the Peerles model 830869. Its power factor is slightly lower than the Seas P21RFX model used in the previous Hifi 262 speaker. But on the other hand, the motion deviation as well as the effective area are larger. However, the force coefficient can be slightly increased with an additional magnet and at the same time the stray field is largely canceled out.
The natural choice for the treble element was the NeoCD 3.0 S element manufactured by Fountek, from which good experiences have been gained in connection with other projects. The treble manufactured by Fountek is a genuine tape treble. In it, the function of the voice coil is performed by the entire aluminum strip. The tweeter element is mounted in the housing from behind so that the outer surface of the flange is clearly behind the front plate. This reduces the time difference between the frequency bands, which is caused both by the location of the acoustic centers of the elements and also by the time delay generated by the crossover filter.
The crossover filter is simple in the bass range, it has only one coil and one capacitor. Because the element's own acoustic response drops sharply above the crossover frequency, no more parts are needed in the filter in the bass range. The treble element, on the other hand, requires a steeper filtration to avoid problems in power duration and to keep distortion values small in the operating range.
The frequency responses are very close to the original Hifi 262 model, but the balance has been slightly changed in a warmer direction. The sensitivity has also increased by about three decibels, so the speaker is quite sensitive. Bass reproduction extends to about 47 Hz. The HM 262 can also be made as a floor-standing speaker version, giving the bass up to 35 Hz. The bass level is dimensioned so that the speaker can withstand some of the accent brought by the room. However, it is recommended that it not be placed directly against the wall.
The set does NOT include a reflex tube or a counter magnet. We recommend JetSet 70 tubes.
The set includes the following parts for
one (1 piece) speaker:
- speaker elements
- crossover filter parts
- screws
- wires
- gaskets
- Connector panel
Note!
If you do not want to make the case yourself, you can order it ready-made. Pattern wood manufactures speaker enclosures from MDF or glulam according to the customer's wishes. The selection includes almost all the building kits sold by Hifitalo, and if necessary, you can also submit the speaker drawings yourself. See the link below for more information and prices.
