Highly sensitive and robust construction kit when size is not an obstacle but you want the best possible. Incredibly natural sound that lacks openness, resolution and ease with even the toughest materials. The capacity of this speaker does not run out.
"Speaker sensitivity, bass frequency and enclosure size are interrelated by the laws of physics. Reducing enclosure size always means compromising on one, or a little of both.
With our new building instructions, it’s not meant to try out the lowest shakes but a reasonable lower limit of about 50 Hz for acoustic music along with high sensitivity. If the sensitivities now presented were to provide unattenuated reproduction to the lower limit of the hearing range, the unit of measurement for enclosure size would change from liters to cubic meters.
Sturdy big brother…
Choosing the right elements is not quite easy. The sensitivity numbers reported are often promising and the measurement curves are inspiring. However, the normal measuring distance of a meter - especially with a large element - does not take into account the transition from ambient radius to semi-space radiation, and the practical sensitivity in the bass range is easily much lower than expected.
The sensitivity number given in the brochure usually does not tell much about the actual sensitivity of the bass range. Because the bass range is the insensitive point of the encapsulated speaker element, it determines the sensitivity of the entire passive speaker and must be taken as a starting point for design.
The 15-inch 15MB606 from Italian Eighteen Sound element manufacturer is classified as a mid-bass element. Its relatively high Qts and Vas values allow the large reflex housing to be utilized. With a 15-inch bass midrange, the directivity is also typically significantly higher, which of course helps minimize cluttered room reflections.
The manufacturer's collection includes an oval XT1464 horn designed for a 1.4-inch pressure chamber treble. It is designed to be just right for a 15-inch orientation. A round or oval horn is better in sound quality than a square one, although it disappears with a hint of sensitivity. We chose the ND1460 pressure chamber treble, or compression driver, for the horn's throat. "
