Our selection includes several models in different price and size categories, from which you can choose the most suitable for you. A good subwoofer adds a dimension to sound reproduction that is not achieved with speakers and is an integral part of listening to music and home theater sound so that the explosions of movies are felt all the way to the chest. A subwoofer is also needed for music playback to transmit even the lowest frequencies of music to the listener.
Home active subwoofer = subwoofer
Virtually all home hi-fi subwoofers are active. This only means that you do not need a separate amplifier, but there is an embedded amplifier at the back of the device, which often also has the necessary adjustments for, for example, volume, filter and phase. The more adjustments you can make with the device, the better you can get it to fit your room and other speakers.
Subwoofer placement
There is such "ease" in placing subbars in a room compared to other speakers that the ear cannot accurately distinguish from which direction the sound is coming. So the bass speaker can be almost anywhere in relation to the listener and the sound is still transmitted. The biggest factor in placing any speaker in a room comes from the acoustics of the room. This does not mean that thousands of euros must first be invested in acoustic materials, but for home use, for example, bookshelves and carpets are already enough to block the most harmful sounds.
So the ones you invest in are pretty free, but the rule of thumb is still to keep the subwoofer somewhere near the main speakers. This is the best way to integrate the subbar into the main speakers. You might want to try different placements and one way to find a good spot is to first place the subwoofer in the "listening position" and actually go to the clumsy corners. Where the subbar sounds best, hit it there.
Car subbars stay in the car
It may seem tempting to have an old car subbar home, but it’s a bad idea. When it comes to car hi-fi, it doesn’t work the same way at home as in a car. Few have rooms as small in volume as a typical car. Another problem comes from the fact that car subwoofers are passive, either with an external amplifier, which requires an amplifier, or the amplifier embedded in the housing is made to receive DC current from the car battery, which often requires an expensive transformer in any case.
